Diagrams in PDM not representing cardinality correctly

$

Hi,

I've got a Logical Data Model, and I have generated a subset of it to create a Physical Data Model. I have attached screenshots of two simple diagrams (LDM and PDM) for context.

In the diagram of the relevant entities in the LDM, the RATING AUTHORITY GEOG RELATIONSHIP entity is shown as being the child of three other entities. In the corresponding diagram for the generated PDM, the RATING_AUTH_GEOG_RSHIP table is not displaying as the child anymore for the corresponding three tables, only the GEOG table. Hopefully this is clear from the attached diagrams.

However, when I click on the relationships between the tables in the model, the underlying relationships are correct, e.g. the PDM diagram shows RATING_AUTH_GEOG_RSHIP as the parent of RATING_AUTH, but the model has it correctly as the other way round.

Why would the PDM diagram not correctly display this?

I'm using PD 16.5.4.1 (4535).

Thanks,

Antony

Can't display for a column in physical diagram

I'm trying to create a diagram that shows the Null Status for a column. That option is usually there but is no longer available to select in Display Preferences. I've gone to "Customize Content" -> Columns -> Select Attributes, and Null Status is not there. The Mandatory attribute is available but takes up too much space in the diagram. I'd be happy with changing Mandatory to <m> but I don't know how to do that. If someone could help me with either of these so that I can show if a field's Null Status that would be great.

Thanks,

Debbie

hi,

To automate the sending of notifications in PD Portal we used SMTP Server connectivity

Here we have given all the settings information regarding the SMTP Server as

     smtp host :smtp.gmail.com

     smtp port :25

     sender's email id

After testing the connection from PD Client we are facing a Error which I mention in Attachments

Do we have any solution for this

Thanks,

Hi,

I am trying to construct a list report for an LDM in which I want to apply a row filter to filter attributes by date (e.g. modification date). How can you set a filter expression as date type?

Embedded DBMS definitions vs. maintained in repository

PowerDesigner 16.5 SP05 PL02

We have about a dozen models and several dozen users, most of whom access the models through PowerDesigner Viewer.

We use a custom DBMS definition for SQL Server.  It is embedded in all of the models.  However, from time to time, when models are checked out the embedded DBMS defintion appears missing (the select DBMS dialog pops up) and has to be reloaded.

I noticed the DBMS definition can be versioned in the repository separately via the Tools->Resources->DBMS screen.  Is it possible to have each model version point to a specific version of DBMS definition stored in the repository somehow to avoid the issue with missing embedded DBMS definitions?

Thanks!

Is there a way to suppress shortcut icons for linked items being displayed in the Object Browser?

[PowerDesigner 16.5 SP03 PL03]

We have an Enterprise model and several system logical models, and have been using traceability links to link the system logical representation to the Enterprise model. The good news is that this all works as expected, however a side effect is that shortcut icons are also added into the system logical model. As an example if the system has an Account entity, and that links to the Enterprise Account Entity via a traceability link the logical model shows the Enterprise Account as a shortcut in the Object browser.

Is there a way to suppress the display of shortcuts in the object browser that exist because of a traceability link or move these into a different folder? These shortcuts are not material to the system level modellers and having them intermingled with the solution entities causes confusion.

Note in a hope to avoid going off topic, the Enterprise model cannot be used to create the System logical model. We are aiming for alignment of pre-existing models, not enforcing top down creation.

Many thanks,

Gareth

Reverse engineering a UNX universe

Hi guys

We've used the reverse engineering feature for BusinessObjects universes the first time in PowerDesigner 16.5 SP5. UNV universes worked fine right from the beginning. But we had troubles with opening UNX universes first. We finally discovered that you need to switch your data foundation object (the DFX file) to a local (= .cnx) connection. As long as you have the data foundation associated with a .cns-connection it won't work. Unfortunately there is no hint about this in the documentation (as far as I know...)

I have to create a lot of views with a lot of tables.

When I join a view to a table, I seem to have to enter all the columns manually.

Is there a way to automatically select every column from the table so I can then remove the few I don't need ?

Thanks

I'm printing out the database model but is taking too much space.

I can scale it down on the "Print" window - but then I have to move the tables, et al to fit where the new pages are.

I've tried to adjust the "Symbol Format" for the "Columns" to a lower point size - but that doesn't seem to work.

If I try to do it per Table and adjust the "Sub-Objects" for each column - I'm not allowed to select a font below 8.

Is there a way to layout the model so that it prints at 75% but I see the page lines when designing tables ?

Thanks

Display preference doesn't work as intended

I have created a model extension and stereotypes with custom shapes to apply to tables for different subject areas. However, these settings override any changes I want to make in display settings (inconsistently) in the individual diagrams.

I have turned on and off 'Apply contents to symbols' and 'Allow users to make changes' in the extension (in many different combinations) but something seems to be overriding the stereotype custom symbols as well as specific diagram display settings. Sometimes it works and other times it doesn't.

For a simple example, I have turned off the 'underline' of a PK column in just about every place I can find but it always gets reset to Ariel, underline. Where is this being set? It is not in the stereotype custom symbol or in the diagram settings. I assume there is some hierarchy of control that I don't understand...

Thanks for any help!!

How to get rtf formatted text to Word by vbscript?

$

Hello,

I`m trying to export rtf formatted text from Descriptions and Annotations of PowerDesigner objects into MS Word document by vbscript. I cannot use Reports, that is not an option. The only way how to do this I`ve discovered so far, is to get the the plain text of the Description together with RTF tags (but not interpreted), write it to a new file and save it with the rtf extension. Then open this rtf file with MS Word (that will interpret rtf tags) and copy&paste this text alredy formatted text to the final MS Word document.

And I have to repeat this for each Description and Annotation that needs to be exported. This solution is definitely not nice, but the only one I`ve discovered so far. Any other advice how to do this more efficiently will be appreciated.

Thank you,

Ondrej Divis

Reverse Engineer or Import of RDF?

$

I have an RDF file (that I've saved as an .XSD) I'd like to get into a PowerDesigner XML model so that I can look at possibly using some of the structures.

When I try to Reverse Engineer the file as an XSD, I get an error saying the file is not a valid XSD. I'm assuming this is because of the RDF tags in the file.

I've looked around some for a tool to convert an RDF file into a typical XML file but haven't found such a thing.

Any suggestions?
