Difference naming conventions across different db technologies
Hi,
I'm creating a database schema for use across
MS-SQL, Postgres and Sybase ASE
We already have some tables in Sybase following CamelCase (Pascal case to be specific)
which we can't create in db's which are case insensitive.
Is there a way we can create a model with one set of table namings but generate a model which generates a different set of namings
eg
UPLOAD_CONTROL is left untouched for MS-SQL and becomes UploadControl when creating for Sybase ?
or
UploadControl is left untouched for ASE and becomes UPLOAD_CONTROL when creating for MS-SQL

Use of Application Architecture Component Object across applications within a system
We are trying to define our application architecture using the System component to represent ECC and to represent the modules within ECC in a hierarchy. We planning to use Applications to represent ECC transactions. We want to use Components to represent "reusable" code/services that can be used across applications and custom objectives/interfaces. Unfortunately, Power Designer doesn't allow a component to be assigned, even through Short Cuts, across multiple Applications. Any suggestions?

Powerdesigner Portal - The CDM diagram is not showing the entity definition (shortcut)
Sirs,
The company uses the version PowerDesigner 16.5 SP05 PL 03 and its Portal (web).
I have been trying to see, in the CDM Diagram that is published on the Portal, the definition (comment) of an entity that is an internal shortcut.
The entity definition is not showed, because it is a shortcut. But the definition of the entities that were created in the diagram (model) appears correctly.
Please, see the picture bellow.
Could you help me ?

PowerDesigner Reverse Engineer from Teradata Truncates Object Names
Hello,
I would like to use PowerDesigner to reverse engineer tables from Teradata v15. I have customized the Teradata .xdb to allow for object length of 128, but the truncation continues to occur.
Learned recently that when Teradata extended the object limit from 30 to 128, they created a whole new set of dictionary tables which have a "V" suffix. So DBC.ColumnsV and DBC.TablesV replaced the DBC.Columns and DBC.Tables respectively. Unfortunately, both still exist. We have a theory that PowerDesigner is reading from the legacy views and because of this, only reflecting the first 30 characters of tables and columns.
Can someone verify this? Is there any way to modify which dictionary tables PowerDesigner is reading from?
Any assistance would be much appreciated!

Modify Database - Adding DML Scripts
Hi friends!
I would like to present the next case to get some ideas on how implement this.
CASE:
I have a PDM model that is used to generate scripts to change database of a system. We create, alter e populate tables (and other objects) using this model and deliver scripts to change the database with the new version of the system.
Evolution of the System:
System version A
Database script Version 1:
CREATE TABLE a (...)
INSERT INTO a VALUES (1,1);
INSERT INTO a VALUES (1,2);
System version B
Database script Version 2:
CREATE TABLE b (...)
INSERT INTO b VALUES (a,a);
INSERT INTO b VALUES (a,b);
INSERT INTO a VALUES (1,3); -- !!!
Questions:
How can I insert the new script to insert values in "a" (!!!) and generate DDL script using "Database\Modify Database" with all the others changes.
Is there a way to move this script do insert values in "a" at the end of the file?
Problems:
If I put the script at the Script\End tab of Table Properties on Version 1, the Version 2 will not have the INSERT script after run "Database\Modify Database".

SAP Power Designer forward engineering to SAP HANA
Hi Community,
In my current project we are building an EDWH architecture with SAP HANA in the center. SAP Power Designer is used as tool to design the physical data models. We want to govern the entire development process via Power Designer, hence every table should be first defined there. In the end we want to forward engineer the model to SAP HANA, preferably using the feature "Apply Model Changes to HANA Repository" in Power Designer. However when trying to do this we are getting the following issue:
After going back and forward again in the dialog, we receive another error:
I have two questions:
- Does anyone have an idea what causes these errors and how to resolve them?
- Will this feature assign the tables to a package in the content as well?
We are using the following versions:
- Power Designer Client, Version 16.5.5.4
- SAP HANA SPS 10

Diagrams in PDM not representing cardinality correctly
Hi,
I've got a Logical Data Model, and I have generated a subset of it to create a Physical Data Model. I have attached screenshots of two simple diagrams (LDM and PDM) for context.
In the diagram of the relevant entities in the LDM, the RATING AUTHORITY GEOG RELATIONSHIP entity is shown as being the child of three other entities. In the corresponding diagram for the generated PDM, the RATING_AUTH_GEOG_RSHIP table is not displaying as the child anymore for the corresponding three tables, only the GEOG table. Hopefully this is clear from the attached diagrams.
However, when I click on the relationships between the tables in the model, the underlying relationships are correct, e.g. the PDM diagram shows RATING_AUTH_GEOG_RSHIP as the parent of RATING_AUTH, but the model has it correctly as the other way round.
Why would the PDM diagram not correctly display this?
I'm using PD 16.5.4.1 (4535).

Importing Visio Models into SAP Power Designer- Relationships are not properly assigned
I imported Visio Model through Visio Add-In called "Export to PowerDesigner" but the relationships are not properly assigned to the objects. They are scattered all over the place. The original relationships in visio model are depicted clearly and assigned properly.
- Is there any way to auto align the relationships properly in PowerDesigner? OR
- Am I doing something wrong while importing from Visio. I am trying to import it as the Model Type "Business Process Model"?

- How do I convert Business Process Model into conceptual Model in PowerDesigner 16?

Listing of tables in a diagram
How do I get a .CSV of tables in a particular diagram ?
In Erwin, diagram names were expandable within the Model Explorer (Object Browser in PD). And you could then see tables only in that diagram.
In the List report Wizard, I could not see a way to know which property to put a filter on. The context sensitive help does not exist for various Filter fields to know what they mean.
Basically if there was a Graphical Selection option for the List Report, just like for the Report Wizard, it would have helped, but I don't see the Graphical selection when doing list reports.

Check-In Checkout in Power Designer
Hello.
I am a newbie and have connected to repository. I wanted to just download the documents for reference purposes with no intent of making changes. I could not find any option except to Check OUT the document. Is there any other way to download document to local from repository except checking out.
Also, I have checked out two documents and now I believe I have to check in the document back to repository. Does that a create a version stamp with my credentials, which I want to avoid ?

Downloadin PD 16.5 SP2
I'm looking forward to downloading PD 16.5 SP2, which includes the 64-bit version of PD, but why-oh-why have they combined the 32-bit and 64-bit versions into one huge (2,925,384,014 bytes) ZIP file? I'm now on my third attempt to download it. My first two attempts were (only!) 1,829,605 KB and 1,843,062 KB. We don't all have access to super-fast broadband. 
Am I the only one having problems downloading it?

PD 16.5 SP03 PL01 Error Messages and Slowness
Questions on Power Designer slowness and errors.
(1) My tool responds very slowly. If I am working on a tool for more than an hour, it becomes very slow to respond.
(2) Since last one week, I can't reverse engineer 10-15 views/tables at the same time. Output says reverse engineering successful but then my PD doesn't show anything on the screen and it freezes up and then I have to restart.
(3) I get following error messages again and again.
Error 1: "The user *************** no longer exists in the repository. Another user may have deleted it."
Error 2: "PDShell16.exe has stopped working." This error message just shuts off my PD and everything unsaved is gone.
Error 3: "Unexpected exception." This is also very annoying message I am getting everyday and PD just stops working.
Has anyone experienced any of these?
P.S.: I checked CPU memory usage and PD was using 1.6GB and I wasn't working with a big model.

PowerDesigner 16.5 Repository on MySQL 5.6
Hi
Has anyone used the PowerDesigner repository with MySQL database ?
According to the help only the below DB's are supported
- Adaptive Server® Enterprise
- Oracle 8 and higher
- IBM DB2 Common Server and DB2 for OS/390
- Informix 2000
- Microsoft SQL Server 2005 and higher
I managed to connect the repository to MySQL 5.6 and everything seems to be working fine ! As a cost saving exercise, i thought of using SQL Anywhere. Apparently there is an authenticated version of SQL Anywhere which I assume you dont need to purchase a license (more the 5 users) but I cant find the download for this. So i'm going for MySQL instead.
